Overview

The standard DIN EN ISO 12780-1 is the German version of the draft European Standard prEN ISO 12780-1:2009 which in turn represents the unchanged adoption of the Technical Specification ISO/TS 12780-1:2003 as a European Standard. The publication of a DIN EN draft standard was renounced because ISO/TS 12780-1 has already been transferred as DIN ISO/TS 12780-1:2009-07 into German and is therefore available for most users. It is hereby expressly pointed out that the content of this standard is identical with DIN ISO/TS 12780-1:2008-05. The original intention at ISO/TC 213 was to publish the Technical Specification as a standard. The draft standards of ISO 12780-1 and -2 have been rejected by the majority, however, since the specifications were impractical for the case of non-existing information for the measurement and analysis conditions in ISO 12780-2. The publication as Technical Specification has been decided in order to preserve the acquired knowledge. The specifications for the case of non-existing information had been deleted entirely. This Technical Specification shall now be published as a European Standard. This standard describes the terms necessary for defining the specification operators for straightness of integral features. Extracting data always involves applying a certain filtering process. An additional filtering of the extracted data might or might not be applied. This additional filter can be a mean line filter (such as Gaussian, spline, wavelet) or a non-linear filter (such as morphological filter). The type of filtering influences the definition of straightness and the specification operators and, therefore, shall be stated unambiguously. This standard specifies the specification operators for straightness of integral features. Until present time of the development, neither an agreement regarding defaults for filter cut-off, neither probe tip radius nor method of association (reference line) could be found at an international level of ISO/TC 213. This means that it is necessary for a straightness specification to explicitly state which values are to be used for these specification operations in order for it to be unique. Consequently, if a specification does not explicitly state which values are to be used for one or more of these operators, the specification is ambiguous and a supplier can use any value not specified when proving conformance. The International Standards have been prepared by ISO/TC 213 "Dimensional and geometrical product specifications and verification" in collaboration with CEN/TC 290 "Dimensional and geometrical product specifications and verification", the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR (France). On the national level, the responsible body involved in its preparation was Subcommittee NA 152-03-02-13 UA "Formmesstechnik (VDI/VDE-GMA FA 3.21" ("Form measurement (VDI/VDE-GMA FA 3.21)")) at DIN Standards Committee Technical Fundamentals (NATG).
