The document contains a brief description of the content of the parts of DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine) which is referred to in this document. Within the field of health informatics, ISO 12052:2006 addresses the exchange of digital images and information related to the production and management of those images, between both medical imaging equipment and systems concerned with the management of that information. ISO 12052:2006 is intended to facilitate interoperability of medical imaging equipment and information systems by describing a set of protocols to be followed by systems claiming conformance to this International Standard. The syntax and semantics of commands and associated information data models ensure effective communication between implementations of this International Standard. This information shall be supplied with an implementation for which conformance to this International Standard is claimed. This International Standard also replaces all previous European Standards and preliminary standards on digital imaging in health informatics. The Committee responsible for this standard is NA 063-07-02 AA "Interoperabilität" ("Interoperability") at DIN.
