DIN EN ISO 1183-1 specifies three methods for the determination of the density of non-cellular plastics in the form of void-free moulded or extruded objects, as well as powders, flakes and granules. - Method A: Immersion method, for solid plastics (except for powders) in void-free form; - Method B: Liquid pyknometer method, for particles, powders, flakes, granules or small pieces of finished parts; - Method C: Titration method, for plastics in any void-free form. This standard differs from DIN EN ISO 1183-1:2004-05 as follows: a) the standard has been editorially revised; b) in the key of Equation 5 concerning the density of air, the relative humidity (RH) has been taken into account and in clause 6 "Correction for buoyancy in air", Equation 6 for the calculation of the density of the air has been corrected; c) informative Annex B "Correction for buoyancy in air" has been added to describe in more detail how to derive Equation 5; d) a Bibliography has been added, containing a reference regarding the calculation of air. This document (EN ISO 1183-1:2012) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 61 "Plastics" (secretariat: SAC, China), in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 249 "Plastics", the secretariat of which is held by Belgium. The responsible German committee at DIN is Working Committee NA 054-01-03 AA "Physikalische, rheologische und analytische Prüfungen" ("Physical, rheological and analytical tests") at the Plastics Standards Committee (FNK).
