This standard contains specifications meeting the essential requirements set out in Annex I of the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC which apply to machines that are first placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market, in order to facilitate proof of compliance with these requirements. Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union, it is deemed a "harmonized" standard and thus, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive ("presumption of conformity"). The grinders can be powered by compressed air or hydraulic fluid and are intended to be used by one operator and supported by the operator's hand or hands, with or without a suspension, for example, a balancer. At the time of publication, no grinders driven by internal combustion engines are known (other than cutting-off machines within the scope of ISO 19432). Once these are identified, this standard will be amended accordingly. This document deals with grinders used with: - abrasive products with a peripheral operating speed less than or equal to 80 m/s; - cutting-off wheels with a peripheral operating speed less than or equal to 100 m/s; - abrasive products with an outside nominal diameter less than or equal to 230 mm; - cutting-off wheels with an outside nominal diameter less than or equal to 250 mm; - wire brushes; - diamond and reinforced (segmented) wheels with an outside nominal diameter less than or equal to 450 mm; - flap discs and flap wheels. This standard is not applicable to: - die grinders with collets, which are treated in ISO 11148-9; - polishers and sanders (that is, tools used with coated abrasives except flap discs and flap wheels), which are treated in ISO 11148-8; cutting-off machines which are driven by internal combustion engines and are used for cutting construction materials, which are treated in ISO 19432; - shaft-mounted wire brushes, which are treated in ISO 11148-9. This document deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations or hazardous events relevant to grinders when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer, with the exception of the use of grinders in potentially explosive atmospheres. This standard contains the German version of EN ISO 11148-7:2012 which has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 118 "Compressors and pneumatic tools, machines and equipment", in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 255 "Hand-held tools". This standard differs from DIN EN 792-7:2009-12 as follows: - The ISO standard has been adopted; - technical requirements of ANSI B.186.1 and references to EN ISO 12100 have been incorporated; - vibration total values and their uncertainties are to be declared; - technical requirements have been mainly adapted to EN 60745 (or IEC 60745); - user instructions shall include further and more detailed safety instructions. The national interests during the preparation were represented by NA 060-08-13 AA "Druckluftwerkzeuge und -maschinen" ("Pneumatic tools and machines") at Technical Section "Kompressoren und Vakuumtechnik" ("Compressors and vacuum technology") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN.
This document replaces DIN EN 792-7:2009-12 .
