This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent to facilitate proof of compliance with those requirements. This part of ISO 11148 applies to hand-held non-electric power tools (hereinafter "drills and tappers") intended for rotary drilling of holes in all kinds of material, for example, wood, metal, concrete and plastics, etcetera, or for tapping and cleaning threads in metal and plastics. The drills and tappers can be powered by compressed air, hydraulic fluid or internal combustion engines and are intended for use by one operator and supported by the operator's hand or hands, with or without a suspension, for example, a balancer. This part of ISO 11148 is applicable to * drills; * heavy duty drills with two handles; * tappers. For examples of drills and tappers, see Annex B. This part of ISO 11148 is not applicable to special requirements and modifications of drills and tappers for the purpose of mounting them in fixtures. This part of ISO 11148 deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations or hazardous events when drills and tappers are used as intended and under conditions of misuse that are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer, with the exception of their use in potentially explosive atmospheres. EN 13463-1 gives requirements for non-electrical equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres. It contains the German version of EN ISO 11148-3:2012 which has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 118 "Compressors and pneumatic tools, machines and equipment", in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 255 "Hand-held tools" at the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). This standard differs from DIN EN ISO 11148-3:2011-03 as follows: a) a new clause "6.2.2.1 General" has been included in 6.2.2. b) in 6.2.2, in 6.2.2.9 "Accessory hazards" (formerly 6.2.2.8), the second indent has been replaced. The national interests during the preparation were represented by NA 060-08-13 AA "Druckluftwerkzeuge und -maschinen" ("Pneumatic tools and machines") at Technical Section "Kompressoren und Vakuumtechnik" ("Compressors and vacuum technology") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN.
This document replaces DIN EN ISO 11148-3:2011-03 .
