Overview

The underlying international draft standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 147/SC 5/WG 6 "Biological classification" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 230 "Water analysis", the secretariat of which is held by DIN. The responsible German committee is NA 119-01-03-05-06 AK "Biologisch-ökologische Gewässeruntersuchung" ("Biological ecological analysis of water") of NA 119-01-03 AA "Wasseruntersuchung" ("Water analysis") at NAW and has been funded by the Länderfinanzierungsprogramm "Wasser, Boden und Abfall" (federal funding programme "Water, soil and waste"). In order to evaluate benthic macroinvertebrate population parameters such as taxonomic composition, abundance, and diversity in fresh waters, appropriate sampling devices are required. The choice of the appropriate sampling device depends on the objective of the study itself as well as on the water type and the benthic macroinvertebrate population being studied.
