This standard specifies fire type-testing requirements and the associated fire type-test method for confirming the pressure-containing capability of a valve under pressure during and after the fire test. It does not cover the testing requirements for valve actuators other than manually operated gear boxes or similar mechanisms when these form part of the normal valve assembly. Other types of valve actuators (for instance electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic) may be equipped with special protection for this valve test. The fire testing of such actuators is outside the scope of this standard. The International Standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 153 "Valves" and has been adopted as a European Standard EN ISO 10497:2010, in collaboration with CEN/TC 69 "Industrial valves", the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR (France). The national interests were represented by Working Committee NA 003-01-01 AA "Grundnormen" ("Basic valves") of NAA.
