Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to lifting platforms intended for use by persons with impaired mobility, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This standard deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and hazardous events relevant to lifting platforms intended for use by persons with impaired mobility, when they are used as intended and under the conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer. This European Standard deals with safety requirements for construction, manufacturing, installation, maintenance and dismantling of electrically powered vertical lifting platforms affixed to a building structure and intended for use by persons with impaired mobility: - travelling vertically between predefined levels along a guided path whose inclination to the vertical does not exceed 15°; - intended for use by persons with or without a wheelchair; - supported or sustained by rack and pinion, wire ropes, chains, screw and nut, friction/traction between wheels and the rail, guided chain, scissors mechanism or hydraulic jack (direct or indirect); - with enclosed liftways; - with a speed not greater than 0,15 m/s; - with platforms where the carrier is not completely enclosed. This standard contains the German version of EN 81-41:2010 which has been prepared by Technical Committee 10 "Lifts, escalators and moving walks" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). During the preparation of the standard, the national interests were represented by Working Committee NA 060-33-01 AA "Aufzüge" ("Lifts") of the Fachbereich Aufzüge und Fahrtreppen (Technical section lifts and escalators) of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of manufacturers and users of lifting platforms intended for use by persons with impaired mobility, as well as representatives of professional and trade associations were involved in the preparation of the standard.
