This European Standard specifies test methods for the safety, strength and durability of bunk beds and high beds. The loads and forces specified for the strength and durability tests apply to beds with an internal length greater than 140 cm and a maximum bed base width of 120 cm. The tests shall be applied to a bed that is fully assembled and ready for use. The applicable safety requirements are given in EN 747-1. This part of EN 747 describes a series of tests consisting of the application of loads or forces to various parts of the furniture corresponding with one adult occupant per bed during normal functional use as well as misuses that can be reasonably expected to occur. These tests are designed to evaluate properties without regard for materials, design/construction or manufacturing processes. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 042-05-13 AA "SpA CEN/TC 207/WG 2 Anforderungen an Kindermöbel" ("Mirror Committee of CEN/TC 207/WG 2 Requirements for children's and nursery furniture") at DIN.
