This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the new EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). EN 746-2, together with EN 746-1, specifies safety requirements for single and multiple burners that are part of industrial thermoprocessing equipment. This standard contains the German version of EN 746-2:2010 which has been prepared by CEN/TC 186 "Industrial Thermoprocessing Equipment- Safety" of the European Committee of Standardization (CEN). With respect to DIN EN 746-2:1997, significant changes have been made and the following clauses have been added: a) a clause on the requirements for electrical and electronic equipment for control system and protective system has been added b) an informative annex ZA on the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of EU Directive 2006/42/EC has been added. The national interests during the preparation of this standard were represented by Committee NA 060-03-02 AA "Industrielle Thermoprozessanlagen - Sicherheit" ("Industrial Thermoprocessing equipment - Safety") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Manufacturers' representatives and users of thermoprocessing equipment and its components, as well as representatives of professional and trade associations were involved in the preparation of the standard.
