This Type C standard contains safety regulations. It contains the German version of Amendment A2:2011 to EN 693:2001, which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 143 "Machine tools - Safety" at the European Committee of Standardization (CEN). The national interests during the preparation were represented by the Machine Tools Standards Committee (NWM) at DIN. This European Standard defines, in connection with the previously valid standard EN 693:2001+A1:2009, relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the new EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to presses which were placed on the EEA market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this Amendment in connection with the previously valid standard EN 693:2001+A1:2009 may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This standard specifies technical safety requirements and measures to be adopted by persons undertaking the design (as defined in 3.12 of EN ISO 12100:2010), manufacture and supply of hydraulic presses which are intended to work cold metal or material partly of cold metal. It also applies for presses, whose primary intended use is to work cold metal, which are to be used in the same way to work other sheet materials (such as cardboard, plastic, rubber or leather), and metal powder. The requirements in this standard take account of intended use, as defined in 3.13 of EN ISO 12100:2010. This standard presumes access to the press from all directions, describes the hazards and specifies the safety measures for both the operator and other exposed persons. This standard also applies to ancillary devices which are an integral part of the press. For the safeguarding of integrated manufacturing systems using presses, also see ISO 11161.
