Overview

This International Standard defines routine and type tests on thyristor valves used in thyristor controlled series capacitor (TCSC) installations for AC power transmission. The tests specified in this standard are based on air insulated valves operating in capacitive boost mode or bypass mode. For other types of valve and for a valve operating in inductive boost mode, the test requirements and acceptance criteria are agreed between purchaser and supplier. The tests described apply to the valve (or valve sections), the valve structure and those parts of the coolant distribution system as well as the ignition and monitoring circuits which are located within the valve structure or which are connected between the valve structure and platform. Other equipment, such as valve control and protection and valve base point electronics, may be absolutely necessary during testing to demonstrate correct valve operation, but are not included in the tests. The committee responsible is DKE/K 331 "Leistungselektronik" ("Power electronics") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
