This part of the IEC 62676 series of standards will prove useful to those responsible for establishing operational requirements, writing specifications, selecting, erecting, commissioning, using and maintaining VSS. In their simplest form, VSS are a means of providing images from surveillance cameras and video recording equipment for viewing on displays via a transmission system. There are no theoretical limits on the number of cameras and displays that may be used in a VSS system, but in practice a limitation results from the effective combination of control and display equipment and the ability of the operator to handle the system. Successful operation of a VSS requires the active participation of the operator in carrying out the recommended procedures. Due to the wide range of VSS applications, for example surveillance, security, public safety, transportation, etcetera, only the minimum requirements are covered in this part of the IEC 62676 series of standards. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 713.1 "Gefahrenmelde- und Überwachungsanlagen" ("Alarm and surveillance systems") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN EN 50132-7:2013-04; VDE 0830-7-7:2013-04 .
