Overview

This standard contains the German version of the European EMF generic standard EN 62479:2010. It adopts the International generic standard IEC 62479:2010 with common European modifications. It specifies requirements for verification of safety of persons in electromagnetic fields in the frequency range from 10 MHz to 300 GHz of low-power electrical and electronic equipment and apparatus. For this purpose, it specifies a low-power exclusion level and describes the determination of this level depending on the relevant parameters. Equipment which itself conform with the requirements or have an accordingly low power input, or the available antenna power or average total radiated power of which meets the low-power exclusion level, conform with this standard and no further assessment is required. Information about the derivation of the low-power exclusion level is given in Annex A. The derivation may be based on considerations concerning the specific absorption rate or power density. Under certain conditions, a low-power exclusion level may also be used for equipment operated near the body, the derivation of which is described in informative Annex B. Furthermore, Annex B of the standard contains information on compliance with this standard by equipment producing pulsed fields. If compliance with the specifications given in this draft cannot be proven for equipment or apparatus, other standards including the EMF generic standard EN 62311 or appropriate (EMF) product standards can be used for the assessment. Furthermore, Annex B of this standard contains specifications regarding the use of measurement uncertainty in the evaluation if limit values are met, and for the assessment report design. Due to the common European amendments, Europe-specific specifications which were already part of EN 50371:2002 which has been replaced by this standard are supplemented. These concern the establishment of the relation to the basic restrictions of the European council recommendation 1999/519/EC. The responsible Committee is K 764 "Sicherheit in elektromagnetischen Feldern" ("Safety in electromagnetic fields") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
