The DIN EN 62439 series of standards specifies high-availability automation networks. In the fault-free state, these protocols provide ISO/IEC 8802-3:2000 (IEEE 802.3) compatible communications and real-time data communication mechanisms. In cases of fault, removal, and insertion of a component, they provide deterministic recovery times. This part of the IEC 62439 series specifies a redundancy protocol that is based on a ring topology. The committee responsible for this standard is national Working Committee K 956 "Feldbus" ("Fieldbus") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE (www.dke.de).
