This standard applies to all kinds of passive dosimetry systems that are used for measuring - the personal dose equivalent Hp(10) (for whole body dosimetry), - the personal dose equivalent Hp(3) (for eye lens dosimetry), - the personal dose equivalent Hp(0,07) (for both whole body and extremity dosimetry), - the ambient dose equivalent H*(10) (for environmental dosimetry), or - the directional dose equivalent H '(0,07) (for environmental dosimetry). This standard applies to dosimetry systems that measure external photon and/or beta radiation in the dose range between 0,01 mSv and 10 Sv and in the energy ranges given in Table 1 of the standard (all energy values are mean energies related to the respective dose magnitude). The dosimetry systems usually use electronic devices for the data evaluation and thus are often computer controlled. The test procedures related to dosimetry system design (Clause 8), instructions for use (Clause 9), software (Clause 10), environmental performance requirements (Clause 13), electromagnetic performance requirements (Clause 14), mechanical performance requirements (Clause 15), and accompanying documentation (Clause 16) are independent of the type of radiation. Therefore, they can also be applied to other dosimetry systems, for example for neutrons, as long as the corresponding types of radiation are used for the test. The standard differs from DIN EN 62387-1 (VDE 0492-3-1):2012-08 as follows: Extension of the range of photon energy for dosimeters for measuring Hp(0,07) from the previous range 8 keV to 250 keV to the new range 8 keV to 10 MeV. Addition of performance requirements for dosimeters measuring Hp(3) for both photon and beta radiation. Such dosimeters can be used to monitor the dose to the lens of the eye. Addition of performance requirements for dosimeters measuring Hp(0,07) for both photon and beta radiation. Correction and clarification of several subsections for better applicability. Alignment of IEC requirements for dosimetry systems used to measure personal dose with the recommendations regarding uncertainty set forth in ICRP Publication No. 75, General Principles for the Radiation Protection of Workers. More detailed information is provided in the new informative Annex E. The responsible committee is DKE/GUK 967.3 "Strahlenschutzdosimeter" ("Radiation protection dosemeter") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
