This part of IEC 62368 applies to electrical and electronic equipment in the field of audio, video, information and telecommunication technology, including electrical office machines, for a rated voltage up to 600 V. IEC 62368-1 is based on the principle of hazard-oriented safety engineering. This is a different approach in the development and specification of safety considerations than that in existing standards. Although this standard is different from the traditional IEC safety standards and their approach, and although IEC 62368-1 is believed to have a number of advantages, it is not the intention that its introduction and continued development will introduce significant changes to the existing safety philosophy that led to the development of the safety requirements in IEC 60065 and IEC 60950-1. The main reason for the preparation of IEC 62368-1 is to simplify the problems created by the convergence of IT Equipment (ITE) and Consumer Equipment (CE) technologies. The technologies are novel, so a learning process is required and experience is needed in their application. Like the standard, this corrigendum does not contain any requirements relating to the operational characteristics or functional properties of the equipment. The standard also applies to components and assemblies intended for incorporation into this equipment. However, such components and assemblies are not expected to meet the requirements of the standard in all respects, provided that the complete equipment meets the requirements when such components and assemblies are installed. This amendment extends the transition period (dow) for the two predecessor standards EN 60950-1 and EN 60065 by 18 months to December 2020. The responsible committee is DKE/K 711 "Sicherheit elektronischer Einrichtungen für Audio/Video-, Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik" ("Safety of electronic equipment within the field of audio/video, information technology and communication technology") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
