DIN EN 62264-5 defines transactions in terms of information exchanges between applications performing business and manufacturing activities each taking place in Levels 3 and 4 of the Purdue reference model. Transaction models are introduced describing how information can be exchanged via the interface between Levels 3 and 4, what roles the systems involved play in this and what responsibilities they have with regard to their data set. The data sets themselves correspond to the models defined in Parts 1 and 2. It also specifies which of the aforementioned transaction models apply for which data models from Part 1 or which limits apply for them. Furthermore, the models defined in Part 1 are subdivided into smaller segments including one logical grouping of data regarding one transaction (PROCESS, CHANGE, ...); thus depending on the frequency of change various parts of object models can be exchanged ("master data", "runtime information"). DIN EN 62264-5:2012 is an unchanged adoption of IEC 62264-5:2011, the content of which is in turn an unchanged version of ANSI/ISA-95.00.05-2007. The responsible committee is K 931 "Systemaspekte" ("System aspects") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
