This standard applies to labels on the packaging of electronic components for automatic handling in B2B processes. These labels use linear bar code and two-dimensional (2D) symbols. Labels for direct product marking and shipping labels are excluded. Labels required on the packaging of electronic components that are intended for the retail channel of distribution in B2C processes are also excluded from this document. Bar code and 2D symbol markings are used, in general, for automatic identification and automatic handling of components in electronics assembly lines. Intended applications include systems that automate the control of component packages during production, inventory and distribution. This document allows mutual agreements between suppliers and customers that change or extend the specifications in this document. The label format includes mandatory, optional, and agreed-upon data elements. Examples of data element short titles are provided in Annex D. This document does not replace or supersede any applicable labeling or marking requirements based on safety or other regulations. This document is in addition to other mandatory labeling requirements. The labeling requirements of this standard may be combined with those of other standards on one label or presented on two separate labels. Marks of approval and conformity, brand identifier elements, and other information, as applicable, may be added. Because they are not typically relevant to automatic processing, they are not further described in this document. The number of counted characters excludes overhang characters such as start and stop characters, data identifiers and any other characters required for the purpose of proper data encoding by a standardized definition of the symbology. All data elements encoded in a machine-readable manner shall be preceded by an appropriate data identifier according to ISO/IEC 15418/ANS MH10.8.2. The manufacturer may add any data to the label. Additional linear barcodes or data elements in the form of two-dimensional symbols shall be applied with the corresponding data identifier. If the specified optional data is indicated on the labels, it shall be applied in the described manner. All other additional data or specific formats or other information may be agreed between supplier and customer. This document does not restrict agreements between trading partners. Data elements that require global uniqueness shall comply with the rules in ISO/IEC 15459 or be combined with the company identifier in accordance with ISO/IEC 15459 together with the data identifier "18V" and shall be unique within that company. The responsible committee is DKE/K 682 "Aufbau- und Verbindungstechnik für elektronische Baugruppen" ("Packaging and interconnection technology for electronic assemblies") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN EN 62090:2003-06 .
