This part of the DIN EN 62040 series of standards for uninterruptible power supply systems (UPS) applies to moveable, stationary and fixed UPS for direct current with an energy storage system that are supplied from an AC voltage source with a maximum of 1 000 V and supply a DC output voltage up to a maximum of 1 500 V. This International Standard is intended to specify the performance and test requirements of a complete UPS and not the individual UPS components. However, it also includes requirements for load switches, disconnectors and coupling switches that are part of a UPS. The purpose of the UPS covered by this standard is to ensure a constant DC power supply to loads. Various types of UPS have been developed to meet consumer requirements for reliability and quality of power supply for different types of loads over a wide power range from less than 100 W up to several MW. Typical UPS configurations and topologies can be found in informative annexes to this standard. The responsible committee is DKE/K 331 "Leistungselektronik" ("Power electronics") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
