Overview

This part of the IEC 61970 standard series specifies an abstract model illustrating all the major objects typically required by an electric utility enterprise in utility operations. The object classes represented in the CIM are abstract in nature and can be used in a wide variety of applications. The use of the CIM goes far beyond its application in an energy management system. This standard should be understood as a tool to enable integration of a common information base in any domain where a common power system model is needed to facilitate interoperability. The responsible committee is K 952 "Netzleittechnik" ("Network control technology") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
