This standard contains general provisions for the design and construction of power installations in networks with rated AC voltages above 1 kV and a rated frequency up to and including 60 Hz in order to ensure safe and trouble-free operation in the intended use. For the purposes of this standard a power installation is one of the following: a) switchgear and transformer substations, including switchgear for supplying railroad installations; b) electrical installations on masts or in towers, switchgear and/or transformers outside enclosed electrical premises; c) one (or more) power generation installation(s) in a confined location. The installation includes generators and transformers with associated switchgear and auxiliary electrical equipment. Connections between generating installations at different locations are excluded; d) The electrical network of a factory, industrial plant or other industrial, agricultural, commercial or public premises. With the addition of A1 in this new edition, offshore wind turbines are also included in the scope of this standard and applicable specifications are made. The voltage range (formula symbol) in "Figure 4a - External wall with non-gridded windows" has been corrected in the report. The responsible committee is K 222 "Errichten von Starkstromanlagen über 1 kV und deren Erdung" ("Erection of power installations exceeding 1 kV and their earthing") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
