This part of the IEC 61850 standard series specifies a method of exchanging time-critical and non-time-critical data through local-area networks by mapping Abstract Communication Service Interface (ACSI) to ISO 9506 and ISO/IEC 8802-3 frames. It also specifies the mapping of objects and services. With this standard, the interaction of sub-assemblies of electrical energy supply can be supported by providing detailed information on how to create and exchange concrete communication messages that implement abstract services and models specified in IEC 61850-7-2. The responsible committee is K 952 "Netzleittechnik" ("Power system control") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
