The EDDL is used to create electronic device descriptions (EDDL). In the corresponding tools it is used to generate interpreter code that can be used to manage parameters, operation or display in devices such as remote input/output modules, field devices and PLCs. This standard contains the library of ready-made subroutines and the profiles for the various fieldbuses. The EDDL is used to define, for example: device parameters; device functions, such as switching to simulation mode or to calibration mode; graphical displays and operating menus; interaction with other devices; permanently stored data. The responsible committee is DKE/K 956 "Feldbus" ("Fieldbus") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
