Overview

This part of the DIN EN 61800 series specifies electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements for power drive systems (PDSs) with a.c. or d.c. motor drives and with converter input and/or output voltages (line-to-line voltage), up to 35 kV a.c. r.m.s. The scope of this standard includes a broad range of PDSs from a few hundred watts to hundreds of megawatts. PDSs covered by this standard are those installed in residential, commercial and industrial locations with the exception of traction applications, and electric vehicles. PDSs are often included in a larger system. The system aspects are not covered by this standard but guidance is provided in the informative annexes. This standard specifies the EMC minimum requirements for a PDS. Its purpose is to specify the limits and test methods for a PDS in accordance with its intended use. It contains immunity and electromagnetic emission requirements. Immunity requirements are given in accordance with the classification of the environment. Low-frequency electromagnetic emission requirements are given in accordance with the type of supply mains. High-frequency electromagnetic emission requirements are given in accordance with four categories of the intended use, including both the environment and the commissioning. This standard does not specify requirements for the safety for the device, such as protection against dangerous body currents, insulation coordination and associated dielectric tests, unsafe operation or unsafe consequences of a failure. Furthermore, effects of electromagnetic phenomena on safety and functional safety are not dealt with. Being a product standard, this standard may be used for evaluation of PDSs. It may also be used for evaluation of complete drive modules (CDM) or basic drive modules (BDM) which may be separately distributed. As an EMC product standard for PDSs this standard takes precedence over all aspects of the generic standards and no additional EMC tests are required or necessary. If a PDS is part of a device for which a separate EMC product standard applies, the EMC standard applies for the complete device. The responsible committee is K 226 "Ausrüstung von Starkstromgeräten und -anlagen mit elektronischen Betriebsmitteln" ("Equipment of power circuit devices and power installations with electronic equipment") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
