This part of IEC 61753 contains the minimum initial test and measurement requirements as well as the severities which non-connectorized single-mode fibre optic 1×2 and 2×2 spatial switches need to satisfy in order to be categorized as meeting the requirements of category C - Controlled environments, as defined in Annex A of IEC 61753-1:2007. The standard gives the minimum requirements, details and severities for 18 different tests. Thus, the standard provides investment security for manufacturers and users as well as defined testing information for testing laboratories and manufacturers. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive optical components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
