This standard gives electroacoustical performance specifications for the following three kinds of sound measuring instruments: - time-weighting sound level meters that measure exponential-time-weighted, frequency-weighted sound levels, - integrating-averaging sound level meters that measure time-averaged, frequency-weighted sound levels, - integrating sound level meters that measure frequency-weighted sound exposure levels. Sound level meters according to this standard are intended to measure sounds generally in the range of human hearing. The sound level meter configurations range from self-contained hand-held instruments with an attached microphone and a built-in display device to measuring equipment comprised of separate components in one or more enclosures and may be capable of displaying a variety of acoustical signal levels. Sound level meters may include general-purpose computers, recorders, printers, and other devices that are necessary for operation of the complete instrument. Sound level meters may be designed for use with an operator present or for automatic and continuous measurements of sound level without an operator present. Two performance categories, class 1 and class 2, are specified in this standard. This standard contains the German version of the European Standard EN 61672-1:2013. The International Standard IEC 61672-1:2013 which forms the basis of this standard has been prepared by Technical Committee 29 "Electroacoustics" of the IEC (secretariat: DS, Denmark) with the German collaboration. Regarding the German collaboration Joint Working Committee NA 001-01-03 GA (NALS/DKE A 3) "Schallmessgeräte" ("Sound measuring instruments") is responsible under chairmanship of the Acoustics, Noise Control and Vibration Engineering Standards Committee (NALS) at DIN and VDI. The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN 61672-1:2003-10: a) new conformity criterion in the form of acceptance limits and the maximum permitted measurement uncertainty of the testing laboratory the practical application is explained in Annexes A and C; b) specification of new values cited for the acceptance limits which apply exclusively for the measurement value, instead of the previous limit deviations which included the uncertainties of the testing laboratory; c) stability during continuous operation and high-stability requirements as well as reference to the influence of mechanical vibration to the lower limit of the linear working range; d) details for the AU frequency weighting and specification of time weighting I have been deleted; e) cited standards updated, in particular reference to DIN EN 62585 has been made. The omitted details for AU frequency weighting and the specification of time weighting I are now included in DIN 45657.
This document replaces DIN EN 61672-1:2003-10 .
