This International Standard series IEC 61558 deals with the safety requirements for transformers, reactors and certain types of power supply units. In Part 1 of this series, requirements and tests are described which are applicable for most types of transformers. They are supplemented and described in detail by the detail specifications in the Parts 2 of the standard series. This Part 2-10 deals with the safety of separating transformers with high insulation level and separating transformers with output voltages exceeding 1 000 V. Transformers incorporating electronic circuits are also covered by this standard. It is applicable to stationary or portable, single-phase or polyphase, air-cooled (natural or forced) independent or associated dry-type transformers. The windings may be encapsulated or non-encapsulated. This International Standard is applicable to transformers and power supply (linear) with internal operational frequencies not exceeding 500 Hz whereby the rated supply voltage does not exceed 1 000 V a.c. and the rated output is limited to 25 kVA for single-phase transformers and 40 kVA for polyphase transformers. Furthermore, the no-load output voltage or the rated output voltage shall not exceed 1 000 V a.c. or 1 500 V d.c. for separating transformers with high insulation level. The responsible committee is DKE/K 323 "Transformatoren, Drosseln, Netzgeräte und entsprechende Kombinationen" ("Transformers, reactors, power supply units and corresponding combinations thereof") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
