Mechanical splices, fibre management systems and closures constitute important parts of modern telecommunication infrastructures. Their handling shall nevertheless be robust and provide reproducible results. This part of IEC 61300 therefore evaluates the ability of assembly and disassembly of a fibre optic mechanical splice, a fibre management system (FMS) or a closure for a specified number of times. This test procedure simulates the following conditions which may be encountered during the component's service lifetime: - the suitability of an optical mechanical splice to be re-installed after disassembly; - the ability to re-enter fibre management systems or closures, by accessing fibres and optical components and making reconfigurations without disturbing transmission in adjacent fibre circuits; - verification of the sealing performance after frequent opening and closing of enclosures. The responsible committee is Subcommittee DKE/UK 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive optical components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
