This part of IEC 61300 specifies the procedure to test the sealing of closures. The purpose of this test is the specification of a standard test method to evaluate the effectiveness of seals and cable entries when subjected to immersion in water. The standard provides manufacturers and test laboratories with security regarding the specification of the test and serves as a reference for quality assurance. The standards for the performance (IEC 61753) and the CENELEC standards of the EN 50377 series refer to the standards of the IEC 61300 series. In the past, diversification of the test methods lead to confusion amongst customers and users. The current version of the standard contains only one method and the severities of sampling were reduced. The responsible Committee is Subcommittee UK 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive optical components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN EN 61300-2-23:1998-07 .
