This standard of IEC 61300 specifies the method for testing the resistance of a fibre optic device to the deteriorative effects of high temperature, humidity and cold conditions. It describes the climate- and time-related test details. The aim is to determine the effects of the temperature variations on the passive element. Especially the behaviour of the component which has become moist by the condensate, at temperatures below freezing point shall be recorded. The standard provides manufacturers and test laboratories with security regarding the specification of the test and serves as a reference for quality assurance. The standards for the performance (IEC 61753) and the CENELEC standards of the EN 50377 series refer to the standards of the IEC 61300 series. The responsible Committee is Subcommittee UK 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive optical components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN EN 61300-2-21:1998-09 .
