This part of IEC 61280 describes the methods for the measurement of the jitter and wander parameters associated with the transmission and handling of digital signals. It describes the inherent properties of jitter and wander, as well as analogue and digital methods to measure the different parameters. This document contains methods to measure the following jitter and wander parameters: - jitter tolerance; - sinusoidal method, - "stressed eye method"; - jitter transfer function; - output jitter; - systematic jitter; - jitter separation; - non synchronized wander; - TDEV tolerance; - TDEV transfer; - synchronized wander. The standard gives manufacturers and operators of transmission systems assurance with regard to the definition of measurements and serves as a reference for quality assurance. At DIN and VDE the responsible Subcommittee is UK 412.2 "Komponenten für Kommunikationskabelanlagen" ("Components of communication cabling systems") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies).
