Overview

This standard contains the requirements for the human-machine interface for discrete controls, multiplexed conventional systems, and soft control systems. It thus supplements DIN EN 60964 (VDE 0491-5-1), which contains the relevant general requirements for the overall design of the control room system, the principles required for safety, availability and user considerations, and the functional design of the overall system. DIN EN 61772 (VDE 0491-5-4) concerning the application of visual display units in the main control room should also be applied together with this standard. In addition to the relevant design principles, the standard also deals with specific design requirements for individual displays and controls (grouping, orientation, flow diagrams, coding and so on), soft controls and special requirements for the use of touch screens. This standard shall be applied to emergency control stations, local control stations, or existing control rooms with caution, as it assumes certain prerequisites (for example, degree of automation) that may not exist. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 967.1 "Leittechnik für kerntechnische Anlagen" ("Instrumentation and control of nuclear facilities") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
