Overview

This standard contains the German version of the European Standard EN 61000-6-5:2015 and is identical with the International standard IEC 61000-6-5 (August 2015 edition). The standard has already been preceded by an International Technical Specification, the status of which has been transformed into a standard. The standard contains requirements for the immunity of electrical and electronic equipment, devices and installations intended for use in power plants and substations (with voltages from medium voltage to the highest voltage level) to electromagnetic disturbances. For certain equipment, devices and installations, there are already product standards with EMC specifications that take precedence for the equipment concerned. The specifications of the standard relate to the frequency range from 0 Hz to 400 GHz, whereby tests only have to be carried out with those test disturbances and in the frequency ranges which are listed in the specification section of the standard and which are applicable to the equipment, apparatus or device concerned. The individual tests are specified separately for each connection (port) of the equipment, device or installation, as is customary for generic standards. When specifying the test levels, a distinction is made between equipment, devices and installations intended for use in power plants and substations and those used in substations. Furthermore, it is assumed within the scope of this standard that different areas exist within a power plant or substation for which different EMC specifications may be applicable. For this purpose, this standard defines protected and unprotected areas, areas inside and outside the relevant plant, and interface areas. Protected areas are those areas for which the EMC provisions specified in IEC/EN 61000-6-1 for residential, commercial and industrial areas may be sufficient. An overview and classification of protected areas is given in Annex C of this standard. This also contains a guide regarding the application of shielding measures in protected areas. The responsible committee is Subcommittee DKE/UK 767.3 "Hochfrequente Störgrößen" ("High frequency disturbances") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
