DIN EN 60958-4-2:2017-01

This part of IEC 60958 specifies the format for coding metadata, or subcode, that relates to the audio content and is carried with it. It represents one part of four documents that together define an interface for the serial digital transmission of two channels of periodically sampled and linearly represented digital audio data from one transmitter to one receiver. The two-channel digital audio interface has been used in a variety of professional sound applications that go well beyond the vision of the original standard. Specifically, these include applications involving increased sampling frequencies and alternative physical media. By splitting the standard into individual parts, it will be sufficient in the future to revise Part 4-4 if, for example, additional transmission media are to be introduced without having to adapt the other parts of IEC 60958-4. The responsible committee is DKE/K 742 "Audio-, Video- und Multimediasysteme, -geräte und -komponenten" ("Audio, video and multimedia systems, equipment and components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
