Overview

This document contains suggestions for security requirements for information technology equipment to be used wholly or partly in a location where protection from weather and other external influences such as rain, dust and so on is usually limited or non-existent due to a building or other structure. There are many examples worldwide of information technology equipment in special enclosures on the sidewalk, on telephone poles or underground. At present, there are no requirements in IEC 60950 that relate to such equipment. This standard would fill this gap. The proposed requirements do not apply to portable or transportable equipment that may occasionally be used outdoors but is not intended for use in harsh weather conditions. The responsible committee is DKE/K 711 "Sicherheit elektronischer Einrichtungen für Audio/Video-, Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik" ("Safety of electronic equipment within the field of audio/video, information technology and communication technology") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
