This standard applies for industrial low-voltage switchgear and controlgear for use in circuits, the voltage of which does not exceed 1 000 V a.c. or 1 500 d.c. The purpose of this standard is to state those general rules and requirements which are common to low-voltage switchgear and controlgear, including for example: - terms and definitions; - characteristics; - information supplied with the equipment; - normal service, mounting and transport conditions; - constructional and performance requirements; - verification of characteristics and performance. The newly incorporated Amendment 1 concerns the following improvements: - requirements for screwless connections have been incorporated; - requirements for electronic control circuits have been incorporated; - the flammability tests in Annex M have been revised; - Annex T with requirements and tests for additional function in electronic overload relays have been incorporated; - informative Annex U with examples for control circuit arrangements has been incorporated; - furthermore, numerous minor modifications and corrections have been made, such as modifications of Table 15 (minimum creepage distances) and Table 23 (EMC immunity tests); - the normative references have been updated and the standard has been editorially revised. The responsible Committee is K 431 "Niederspannungsschaltgeräte und -kombinationen" ("Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
