This part of the IEC 60846 series applies to portable dose equivalent (rate) meters and/or monitors for the measurement of ambient dose equivalent (rate) and/or directional dose equivalent (rate) from external beta, X and gamma radiation, as recommended in ICRU, Report 47. The standard to dose equivalent (rate) meters that measure the dose equivalent or dose equivalent rate from external beta and/or X and gamma radiation in the dose range between 0,01 µSv and 10 Sv and the dose rate range between 0,01 µSv/h and 10 Sv/h. It replaces DIN EN 60846 (VDE 0492-2-1):2005-03 and implements the knowledge gained from addressing the standards on personal dose equivalent meters and passive dosimetry systems as later covered by IEC/SC 45B and CENELEC/TC 45B. For personal dose equivalent meters, see DIN EN 61526 (VDE 0492-1):2013-09, and for passive dosimetry systems, see DIN EN 62387-1 (VDE 0492-3-1):2012-08. Regarding the latter, a new edition is currently under preparation, see Draft Standard E DIN IEC 62387 (VDE 0492-3-1):2013-07. The responsible committee is DKE/GUK 967.3 "Strahlenschutzdosimeter" ("Radiation protection devices") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN EN 60846:2005-03; VDE 0492-2-1:2005-03 .
