This part of DIN EN 60794 is a family specification for All Dielectric, Self Supported (ADSS) optical cables usually consisting of single-mode optical fibres and arranged in one or more dielectric fibre optic unit(s) and surrounded by a dielectric sheath or connected to a dielectric stress-relieving element and therefore does not contain metallic components. Such optical fibre cables are used for telecommunication applications in overhead power lines. The requirements of the sectional specification IEC 60794-4 for aerial optical cables along electrical power lines are applicable to cables covered by this standard. This International Standard contains both requirements for the construction as well as the mechanical, electrical and optical performance of ADSS optical cables. Furthermore it contains installation guidelines, test requirements, acceptance criteria, environmental considerations and accessories compatibility. The responsible committee is Subcommittee DKE/UK 412.6 "Lichtwellenleiter und Lichtwellenleiterkabel" ("Fibres and cables") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
