This part of IEC 60794 is a family specification covering multi-fibre optical distribution cables for indoor use and addresses manufacturers and customers of these cables. In addition to loose tube cable types and central tube cable types, slotted-core cables are described. Fibres in accordance with IEC 60793-2-10 and IEC 60793-2-50 are used for cable construction. In addition to the definition of context-related terms, the mechanical requirements for indoor optical fibre cables are specified. This standard describes in detail the tests specified in IEC 60794-1-2 (currently under revision). Clause B.2.2 contains requirements for cables in installations which are given in the MICE table according to ISO/IEC 24702 and which replace the usual requirements. The requirements of the sectional specification IEC 60794-2 are applicable to cables covered by this standard. The responsible Committee is Subcommittee UK 412.6 "Lichtwellenleiter und Lichtwellenleiterkabel" ("Fibres and cables") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
