This part of IEC 60793-1-52 provides a practical method for evaluating fibre performance in a defined environment. The purpose of this standard is to define a test that determines the suitability of sub-category A1a to A1d multimode fibres and class B and C single-mode fibres to withstand the environmental condition of change in temperature which may occur in transport, storage or actual use. The test is primarily intended to permit the observation of effects of change of temperature over a given period. This procedure is conducted in accordance with IEC 60068-2-14, Test Nb. The standard contains the minimum requirement, the details as well the test severities for the change of temperature test. Thus, the standard provides manufacturers and users with investment security and test laboratories and manufacturers with detailed information on testing. The responsible committee is Subcommittee DKE/UK 412.6 "Lichtwellenleiter und Lichtwellenleiterkabel" ("Fibres and cables") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN EN 60793-1-52:2002-10; VDE 0888-252:2002-10 .
