Overview

This International Standard contains specifications for the test the purpose of which is to determine the suitability of optical fibre sub-category A1a to A1d multimode fibres and class B and C single mode fibres to withstand the environmental condition of high humidity and high temperature which may occur in actual use, storage or transport. The test shall be conducted in accordance with IEC 60068-2-78, test Cab. Both optical as well as mechanical characteristics are measured. For the measurements of the optical characteristics the length of the specimens of the optical fibres of the sub-categories A1a to A1d shall be at least 1 000 m and of the optical fibres of the classes B and C shall be at least 2 000 m in order to ensure the required repeatability of the measurement. The responsible committee is Subcommittee DKE/UK 412.6 "Lichtwellenleiter und Lichtwellenleiterkabel" ("Fibres and cables") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
