The Committee responsible for this standard is K 735 "Kabelnetze und Antennen für Fernsehsignale, Tonsignale und interaktive Dienste" ("Cable networks for television signals, sound signals and interactive services") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE. This new part of DIN EN 60728 (VDE 0855) applies to optical transmission systems for broadcast signal transmission that consists of a head-end component, optical transmission lines, in-house wirings and a system outlet. The system is primarily intended for television and sound signals using analogue and/or digital transmission technology. This system specifies the basic system parameters and methods of measurement for optical distribution system having a system outlet in order to assess the system performance and its performance limits. Design considerations for actual service systems establish the bridge to application. Thereby, several sample solutions with their parameters are described using a system reference model, and tips for actual operation are given. Different network topologies are introduced and impairments of optical systems are explained.
