This International Standard applies to capacitors and resistors with unidirectional wire terminations intended for use in electronic equipment, and specifies a method for determination of the space required by capacitors and resistors with unidirectional wire terminations. The terminations of the component to be measured shall be aligned and completely inserted from the chamfered side into the holes of the gauge board with the correct raster hole diameter. All fixing devices present on the component shall be used in the intended manner. No additional power than is appropriate for each respective termination shall be used during insertion. The gauge board shall exhibit rectangular rows of holes in standardized grid dimensions, as given in IEC 60097. Unless specified otherwise in the corresponding specification, the nominal grid dimensions shall correspond to a multiple of 0,5 mm, preferably 2,5 mm. The non-cumulative tolerance of the position of raster holes on the same axis with one another shall be ± 0,02. The nominal thickness T of the gauge board shall be 1,5 mm. The diameter of the raster holes shall correspond to the diameters of the wire terminations in the framework of regular practice for printed circuits. Unless specified otherwise in the corresponding specification, the diameter of the raster holes in the gauge board shall be taken from Table 1. Width and length of the space required by an installed component shall be measured. When measuring the height of the space required by an installed component, the height is the measured distance between the supporting plane and the highest position of the component, the supporting plane being the top side of the gauge board. With respect to the first edition the following essential technical modifications have been made: - employment of the millimetre-based grid, the preferred grid system given in IEC 60097; - employment of SI units only, causing deletion of the imperial dimensions from Table 1; - reduction of the tolerance on the chamfer depth in Figure 1, and - introduction of requirements on information to be given in a relevant specification. The responsible committee is GK 613 "Widerstände" ("Resistors") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
