This standard is part of a standard series dealing with insulating sleeving for electrical purposes. The series "Flexible insulating sleeving" consists of three parts: - Part 1: Definitions and general requirements (IEC 60684-1); - Part 2: Methods of test (IEC 60684-2); - Part 3: Specifications for individual types of sleeving (IEC 60684-3). This part is one of the sheets which belong to Part 3: Sheet 280: Heat-shrinkable polyolefin sleeving, anti-tracking. This part of DIN EN 60684 contains requirements for anti-tracking polyolefin sleevings with a shrink ratio of 3:1. These sleevings are suitable for use at temperatures of up to 100 °C. Typical values are an average wall thickness for an inner diameter of up to 110 mm. These types of sleevings are usually supplied in the colours red or brown. As sleevings of this type comprise a considerably wide range of sizes and wall thicknesses, a guideline for the series of available sizes is given in Table A.1 of this standard. The actual size shall be agreed upon between user and manufacturer. Materials which conform to this standard meet established requirement levels. However, the selection of a material by a user for a specific application should be based on the actual requirements necessary for adequate performance in that application and not based on this standard alone. These sleevings are intended for use on cable accessories for medium-voltage applications; their electrical performance shall therefore be tested as part of the assembly. Examples are described in HD 629 and in the standards of the series DIN EN 60502. The responsible Committee is K 181 "Feste elektrische Isolierstoffe" (AK 181.0.5 "Isolierschläuche") ("Solid electrical insulating materials" (WG 181.0.5 "Insulating sleeving")) of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
