Overview

This standard specifies test procedures, conditions and methods according to which the main parameters and the main operational characteristics of a submerged-arc furnace (SAF) shall be established. This standard is applicable to SAF with one or more electrodes. SAFs are intended for melting of non-ferrous metals, iron alloys, recycling, slagging and slag cleaning. In order to determine further technical or economic assessments, additional tests may be necessary. The responsible committee is DKE/K 362 "Industrielle Elektrowärme" ("Industrial electroheat") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
