This standard applies to the identification of terminals of electrical equipment such as resistors, fuses, relays, contactors, transformers, rotating electrical machines and, wherever applicable, to combinations of such equipment (for example, assemblies), and also applies to the identification of terminations of certain designated conductors. This standard also provides general rules for the use of certain colours or alphanumeric notations to identify conductors with the aim of avoiding ambiguity and ensuring safe operation. These conductor colours or alphanumeric notations are intended to be applied in cables or cores, busbars, equipment and installations. The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN 60445 (VDE 0197):2007-11 and DIN EN 60446 (VDE 0198):2008-02: a) DIN EN 60445 (VDE 0197):2007-11 and DIN EN 60446 (VDE 0198):2008-02 have been merged. b) Topic-related terms have been incorporated in clause 3. c) For adoption of terms from the IEC standards which have been referred to, some clauses have been revised. These revisions did not change any technical requirements but clarified the terms. d) Annex B (informative) "List of notes concerning certain countries" has been added. The responsible Committee is K 115 "Grund- und Sicherheitsregeln für die Mensch-Maschine-Schnittstelle, Kennzeichnung" ("Basic and safety principles for man-machine interface, identification") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
