This part of the IEC 60384 series of standards applies to fixed tantalum electrolytic surface mount capacitors with conductive polymer solid electrolyte, which are primarily intended for DC applications for use in electronic equipment. These capacitors are primarily intended for use in electronic equipment to be mounted directly on substrates for hybrid circuits or to printed boards. Capacitors for special-purpose applications may need additional requirements. The object of this document is to prescribe preferred ratings and properties and to select from IEC 60384-1:2016 the appropriate quality assessment procedures, tests and measuring methods and to give general performance requirements for this type of capacitor. Test severities and requirements prescribed in detail specifications referring to this sectional specification shall be of equal or higher performance level, because lower performance levels are not permitted. Fixed tantalum electrolytic surface mount capacitors with solid manganese dioxide electrolyte are not included but are covered by IEC 60384-3. For application of this document the terms and definitions given in IEC 60384-1 apply. The marking of the capacitors and the packaging contains the following information, the relative importance corresponding to the order of precedence. These are the polarity of the terminals (unless identified by the construction), the rated voltage, the nominal capacitance, the category temperature, the tolerance on nominal capacitance, year and month (or week) of manufacture, the manufacturer's name and/or trademark, the manufacturer's type designation and reference to the detail specification. Surface mount capacitors shall be marked with the polarity of the terminals. Further details are applied as required. The Preferred Ratings and Properties chapter designates preferred characteristics and preferred ratings, supplemented by tables of category and peak voltage values. The Quality Assessment Procedures chapter covers the primary stage of manufacture, structurally similar components, certified test records of released lots, and qualification approval, supplemented by tables showing the sampling plan for qualification approval - assessment level EZ and the test plan for qualification approval. The Quality Conformance Testing chapter covers the topics of inspection lot formation and test plan, delayed delivery and evaluation stages and is supplemented by the tables for inspection lots and periodic tests. The Test and Measurement Procedures chapter supplements the information in IEC 60384-1, Clause 4, covering pre-drying, measurement conditions, assembly, visual inspection and dimensional control, electrical tests, solder heat resistance, solderability, shear testing, and substrate bending test. Other topics include rapid temperature change, climatic test sequence, damp heat steady state, high and low temperature properties, peak stress, endurance testing, solvent resistance, and high temperature storage. The standard differs from the previous edition as follows: a) revision of the document structure, as far as practical, in accordance with ISO/IEC guidelines and harmonization with other similar types of documents; b) also revision of Clause 4 and all tables to avoid duplication and inconsistencies. The responsible committee is DKE/K 611 "Kondensatoren" ("Capacitors") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
