This European Standard contains the text of International Standard IEC 60335-2-95:2011-09 with agreed common CENELEC amendments and the text of IEC 60335-2-95:2011/A1:2015-01 and the text of IEC 60335-2-95:2011/A1:2015-01 without common CENELEC amendments. The common CENELEC amendments to the International Standard are indicated by a vertical line in the left-hand margin. The submitted amendments adapt the International Standard to the essential requirements of the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. Amendment A1 to IEC 60335-2-95:2011 adds additional requirements and tests relating to the functional safety of the equipment. This European Standard deals with the safety of electric drives for garage doors for residential use that open and close in a vertical direction, the rated voltage of the drives being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances. It also covers the hazards associated with the movement of these electrically driven garage doors. This standard also applies to entrapment protection systems for use with drives. Examples of garage doors are one-piece doors with horizontal track, one-piece doors with vertical and horizontal track and wicket door, sectional doors with horizontal and vertical track, horizontally folding sectional doors and rolling doors. This European Standard does not contain specific requirements for the noise emission of the drives, as the generated noise does not represent a relevant health hazard. The emission sound pressure level LpA is therefore considered to be LpA ≤ 70 dB (A). The responsible committee is DKE/UK 511.11 "Motorische Geräte" ("Motor-driven devices") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
