This part of the DIN EN 60332 (VDE 0482-332) series of standards specifies a test procedure for assessment of falling flaming droplets/ particles when a single vertical electrical insulated conductor or cable, or optical fibre cable, is subjected to defined fire conditions. DIN EN 60332-1-3 (VDE 0482-332-1-3) describes the use of the 1 kW flame with a gas/air mixture and is generally applied. However, the specified test method may not be applicable to single conductors, cables or lines of less than 0,5 mm2 because the conductor melts before the test is completed, or to the test of thin fiber optic cables because the cable or line breaks before the test is completed. The tests for vertical flame propagation of an insulated conductor or a cable are divided into a series of parts in the following standards: - Part 1-1 specifies the test apparatus. - Part 1-2 specifies the test method using a 1 kW pre-mixed flame. - Part 1-3 specifies the procedure for determination of flaming droplets/particles. The responsible committee is Subcommittee DKE/UK 411.2 "Isolierte Starkstromleitungen" ("Insulated cables, wires and flexible cords for power installation") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
